Neonatal Intensive Care Unit (NICU)

At Hahnemann University Hospital, you can take comfort in knowing that we offer a 16-bed Level III Neonatal Intensive Care Unit (NICU), where we can provide high-level care for premature and critically ill babies.

Should your baby need intensive care, our neonatologists and neonatal nurse practitioners are on call 24 hours a day, seven days a week, to provide advanced care. Pediatric subspecialty services are available through our sister hospital, St. Christopher’s Hospital for Children, where specialists are on-call for infants with difficult medical circumstances, including cardiac and surgical conditions.

What to Expect

Having a newborn in the NICU can be stressful experience, but we work closely with the parents and loved ones of each newborn. Parents are encouraged to participate in the care of their newborn and are taught how to interact and respond to their basic needs in a mutually beneficial way.

We encourage parents to hold their infant in skin-to-skin contact at the earliest possible opportunity to support bonding. With the exception of rare times, parents are welcome to be at the bedside with their baby 22/24 hours a day.
